In July 2014, 18-year-old Conrad Roy III was discovered dead from carbon monoxide poisoning in his truck. Initially perceived as a heartbreaking suicide, the case took a sinister twist after police examined his phone. His 17-year-old girlfriend, Michelle Carter, had sent numerous messages urging him to end his life. When Conrad hesitated and stepped out of the truck, Michelle texted: "Get back in." Tragically, he complied. This unprecedented case led to Michelle's conviction for involuntary manslaughter, solely based on her text messages, igniting a nationwide debate about the power of words and their responsibility in such tragedies. Michelle served 11 months in prison, being released in 2020.
