Ruby Fox loved games more than anything. She raced through the forest, played hide-and-seek, and challenged everyone she met. But whenever Ruby lost, she became upset. “That’s not fair!” she complained. One afternoon, Ruby challenged Toby Turtle to a leaf-collecting game. She was certain she would win easily. But Toby carefully gathered the biggest and most colorful leaves while Ruby rushed too quickly and missed many of them. When the game ended, Toby had collected the most leaves. Ruby crossed her arms angrily. Then Toby smiled kindly and handed her one beautiful golden leaf. “Games are more fun when everyone smiles,” he said. Ruby looked around and noticed that nobody cared about winning as much as laughing together. And that day, she learned that having fun matters more than being first.
