Without a second thought, Kiki dove down, scooping the frightened creature into her arms. “Hold on tight!” she whispered, darting toward a dark cave. The heat nipped at her back as she raced against time, dodging smoke and fire. They tumbled into the cave, gasping for breath. Safe at last, Kiki smiled down at the turtle, its grateful eyes shining.
