The chilling wind howled through the darkened forest as Mara stumbled upon the ancient well. Her flashlight flickered, casting eerie shadows on the moss-covered stones. She leaned closer, peering into the abyss, when a raspy voice whispered her name. Heart pounding, she stepped back, but the ground gave way beneath her. She plunged into the darkness, the air thick with the scent of decay. Clawing at the walls, her fingers met something cold and slippery. Suddenly, eyes opened in the blackness, thousands of them, blinking in unison. Mara screamed, realizing she'd awakened something ancient and hungry, waiting for her.
